Summer is just around the corner, so it’s high time I prepared a post that includes 8 of my most anticipated books of summer 2024. There are so many good titles to choose from, as per usual. But this time I opted to share books from my personal selection.
The following books are on my own tbr list, whether arcs from publishers, or part of the book tours I partake in. The last book on this list is my most anticipated book of the year, so read on to find out which one I’m talking about. And all of them, except for one, are thrillers. That shouldn’t come as a surprise though, knowing I love thrillers.
With that being said, let’s get right down to it. These are my 8 most anticipated books of summer 2024.
If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finlay
This book will be published on May 28th by Minotaur Books, a subdivision of St. Martin’s Press.
It is a compelling thriller that is told from a few different characters’ points of view. While the first part may be confusing at first, it ties up nicely at the end.
The book contains many twists and turns and it promises to deliver a shocking ending. What best way to start the summer than with a propulsive thriller that will keep you guessing until the last page?
The Perfect Guest by Ruth Irons
Another gripping thriller to get you going this summer, this one is set to publish on June 20th by Black and White Publishing.
Did you ever have a guest that overstayed their welcome? I’m sure we all did at some point, and this book is an exaggeration of how things transpire in real life. Diana, or Dinah, worked hard to get where she is today. But her secrets are threatened to be exposed by one of her new acquaintances. Will she get away with hiding her true identity and keep her past hidden? Or is someone going to get hurt?
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to dive into this one. Stay tuned for my thoughts on the blog tour on June 19th.
Boys Who Hurt by Eva Bjorg Aegisdottir
Set to publish on June 20th from Orenda Books, Boys Who Hurt is the fifth installment in the Forbidden Iceland series.
I am part of the international read along that starts on May 27th until the 31st (my birthday!!!). I read the first three in the series, but I will skip the fourth for now. Stay tuned for my thoughts after I participate in the blog tour. I will come back to it after since I’d like to complete the series.
As the title leaves room for interpretation, are the boys in question in pain or do they inflict pain onto others? Intriguing, just like in typical Nordic Noir fashion.
Stay tuned and find out next week, when I’ll have finished reading the book.
One Big Happy Family by Jamie Day
This book is set to publish on July 16th by St. Martin’s Press. Another unputdownable thriller, I can’t wait to read it. This one hasn’t been featured much on social media, but I’m hoping to change that.
The Maine setting is summer appropriate, and the twists and turns the book offers make for a great read.
The family-owned Precipice, a hotel on Maine’s rocky coast is left to the Bishop sisters after the passing of their father. But Charley, the 19 year-old chamber maid has a lot to lose with the arrival of the three sisters. Although she isn’t the only one who’s keeping secrets. Who will survive by the end of the summer?
What Lies in Darkness by Christina McDonald
This new Christina McDonald book will be published on July 16th as well, by Thomas & Mercer. I read the first two books by the author and loved them, so I’m hoping this one will live up to my high expectations. This is the second book in the Jess Lambert series, following These Still Black Waters.
With the past and present colliding in this riveting new suspenseful novel, traumatized detective Jess Lambert will not rest until she gets answers about what happened to a missing family. The sole survivor of the tragic accident leaves 16 year-old Alice still traumatized a year later. The secrets of the dead and of the living might come out, but that doesn’t deter Jess from trying to solve the mystery behind the Harpers’ disappearance. Will Jess find the answers she and Alice desperately need?
House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen
My last arc on this list is set to publish on August 6th by St. Martin’s Press. The author has a few books under her belt already that she co-wrote with Greer Hendricks. This is her latest solo adventure, and I’m sure I will enjoy it. I liked everything the duo wrote so far, hence my excitement to read something the author wrote on her own.
Picture-perfect from the outside, the Barclays are anything but. Nine-year-old Rose possibly witnessed the murder of her nanny, and one of the family members is the culprit. Stella, Rose’s court appointed lawyer is set to help her through this ordeal, but is the young girl as innocent as she is believed to be? Or is Stella in more danger than she can fathom?
I need to know the answer to all these questions, so stay tuned for my thoughts on this book later on this summer.
The Kill List by Nadine Matheson
Expected publication on August 6th by Harlequin Trade Publishing, The Kill List is another of my most anticipated reads of summer 2024.
New evidence in a case that was tried 25 years ago comes to light, and the investigation is reopened. Detective Henley and her colleagues work hard to stop the new killer before he or she takes more victims.
I won’t hold the fact that the publisher denied my request for an arc against the author. I read The Jigsaw Man, the debut thriller in the Anjelica Hanley series three years ago, and was looking forward to her third book in the series. The second one, The Binding Room, is still sitting on my shelves, and I needed that incentive to bump it up my list.
I guess I’ll have to wait for this one to come out like the common folk, but that will give me extra time to catch up on her second installment.
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
At the end of summer, more precisely on September 3rd, this beauty of a book is expected to be published in North America by Ballantyne Books. You know that I’m looking forward to this book with much anticipation, as I absolutely loved the author’s debut novel, Cleopatra and Frankenstein.
Blue Sisters promises to be just as wonderful as her debut novel. After the death of their sister Nicki leaves the three estranged Blue sisters devastated, they must come together in this time of loss. A year after this tragedy upends their lives, they come to New York to sell the apartment they were raised in. But as they are all different and share diverging opinions, tempers clash and tears are shared.
It is a poignant, beautiful story of identity and the complexities of family. Mellors paints a touching canvas of how each individual sister deals with grief in their own way. A must read if you loved Cleopatra and Frankenstein.
Concluding Words
There seems to be a trend when it comes to my taste in books. With the exception of Blue Sisters, all the books that I’m most looking forward to reading this season are thrillers. If you didn’t guess what my favorite genre is, I guess this post will confirm it!
These are my 8 most anticipated books of summer 2024. Do you see any of these that caught your attention? Which one seems more up your alley?
As per usual, leave me your suggestions or recommendations in the comment box below.
