When the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, the weather becomes so cozy that it makes me want to curl up with a good book and read all day. For many it is a spooky season as well, which means staying indoors and enjoying all that Halloween and Thanksgiving have to offer. So with these two holidays in mind, I put together a tentative fall 2024 to-be-read list.
I say tentative, because as many of you know, I make these to-be-read lists and very rarely do I manage to get through them all. I’m hoping to read at least a few of them. If I actually manage to read them all, I’ll surprise myself most of all, but you never know. I’ve been good lately with book buying, and I haven’t even requested arcs or library books much in the last few weeks. So there might be hope that I can stick to this list. But being a mood reader means the list might get upgraded a couple of times. To me, the most important thing is that I read as many of the books I already own before committing to new books.
Without further ado, let’s see which books are on my fall 2024 tentative to-be-read list.
Bath Haus by P.J. Vernon
I’ve won this book in a giveaway a couple of years ago, but it was a book that appealed to me before entering it. And still, I haven’t gotten around to it yet. It is a thriller, so I don’t have an excuse not to read it soon. It promises to deliver lots of twists and turns, as well as an emotional ending. Plus, its main character is queer, which I’m also looking forward to.
The Wife Stalker by Liv Constantine
And a second thriller for my fall tbr, The Wife Stalker is a juicy story about a mistress who’s determined to get the man she fell in love with to leave his wife. And he does, but the wife discovers disturbing secrets about the new woman who pushed her way into their family. She still loves him, and she’s going to do everything in her power to save those closest to her from a dangerous woman.
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
I must say, this book has been on my tbr list the longest from today’s post. I don’t know if it is the best time of the year to read this book. But if I were to judge the book by its cover, then I would guess that it is.
‘If you knew the date of your life, how would you live your life?’
This quote had me intrigued from the first time I read it, and that is why I bought the book. I must say, it has a similar theme to Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty, a book I literally just finished. Although Benjamin wrote her book in 2018, it is the third book with similar vibes I’m planning to read this fall. I also read The Measure by Nikki Erlick, although I read that one in 2023. Once I finish The Immortalists I will let you know which is my favorite of the three.
The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne
Another book that I’ve had on my shelves for a while. I’m hoping I can actually get to it this fall. It is the Goodreads Choice Award winner for the best historical fiction for 2017. If you’re interested in Ireland’s history from the 1940s onwards, this book might seem appealing to you. Seen through the lens of an ordinary man who tries to find his identity and place in a changing world, the book is well-woven and strong on character development.
Free Food For Millionaires by Min Jin Lee
Family saga lovers will want to add this book to their tbrs as well. It is an intricate story about a young Korean woman who graduated from Princeton and tries to navigate her newfound identity as an American. A generational shift is at the center of this novel, which is common in first or second generation immigrant families arriving in America. I love reading books, even though they’re not true stories, that introduce me to different cultures from my own. I always learn something new, even from a work of fiction.
And The Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
This promises to be another literary gem. I’ve read the author’s previous two novels, and they were both excellent. So I’m sure this one will become a favorite too. Written in 2013, it is an older book, but one that is equally important to read, just like Husseini’s first two. His style is flawless, and the man knows how to narrate a story. He evokes many strong emotions in his readers, so be forewarned. He has the ability to write heart wrenching tales that will make you sob your eyes out. But the message is always beautiful, so I urge you to add this one to your tbr as well.
Atomic Habits by James Clear
The next three books on this list are nonfiction. Atomic Habits has become such a popular book since it was published in 2018, I decided to prioritize it this year. One of the best selling self-help books of 2018, it is still one of the best and most quoted nonfiction books that appeal to me. I haven’t read much nonfiction in the last few years, but I try to add at least one or two interesting ones per year. And hopefully I’ll apply some of the things the author suggests in my day-to-day life.
Surrounded by Energy Vampires by Thomas Erikson
The next two nonfiction books are from the same author. Swedish best-selling author Thomas Erikson is best known for his Surrounded By Idiots, the first book in the ‘surrounded by ‘series. He’s written six books in the series thus far. Some reviews are negative, but to me his books are intended mostly for entertainment value. The author did not claim to invent any new theory, but rather took his inspiration from real scientists. Take that as you may, I’m still planning to read this one.
Surrounded by Liars by Thomas Erikson
In the same series as the previous book that I added to my tbr, this book is going to be published on November 5th, 2024. I’d like for it to be my third nonfiction book this year, so we’ll see if I can actually manage to read it. It is the author’s seventh book in the Surrounded By series, which became super popular in the early 2010s. I’ll see if I fall under the category of readers who enjoyed his books, or those who really didn’t.
The Unlucky Ones by Hannah Morrissey
This is my latest addition to my NetGalley shelf, and a very unexpected surprise. I didn’t even know the book was available yet, and I found an email from the publisher inviting me to read the arc. So, I must read it asap, since Hannah has become one of my go-to authors in the last couple of years. I’ve read all three of her previous novels, and I love her style. Without a doubt, she is one author I will always recommend to those who love dark, atmospheric thrillers.
Concluding Words

Until next time, keep reading fellow bookworms!
