Now that winter is finally on its way out and warmer temperatures are finally here, we are also ready to come out of hibernation. And it’s time to lighten up our reading a little while we’re at it. Mind you, I’m a dark thriller reader yearlong, but I’m always up to changing things up in spring. The following list includes 12 books to read in spring 2025.
These books are a bit lighter and give us some hope that better days are coming.
Spring has sprung here in Montreal, and I’m so happy! I love the longer days, the warmer temperatures, and all the nature coming back to life. The beautiful flowers are blooming and trees are getting new leaves! And I love reading books that capture those feelings around this time of year.
I’ve included some older titles, as well as a couple of new releases. Mind you, they’re not all set in spring, but I find this time of year is somehow perfect for reading them.
For today’s post, I included 12 books to read in spring 2025.
Sweet Fury by Sash Bischoff
Lila Crayne, America’s sweetheart, is cast in a feminist adaptation of a Fitzgerald classic. But she soon finds herself caught up in a game of revenge, both on and off the screen.
This mystery was published on January 7th 2025.
You Didn’t Hear This From Me by Kelsey McKinney
I don’t know about you, but I love a good gossip story. This is an interesting dive into what gossip is and how it evolved over time. It is a nonfiction book that tackles a popular topic we all come upon in our everyday lives.
The book was published on February 11th 2025.
Three Mothers by Hannah Beckerman
I’ve recently started reading this book, and I must say I’m hooked. It’s a gripping read, with a good plot line and a mix of likeable and unlikeable characters.
The novel looks at how a tragedy affects the three mothers of the three teenagers involved in the story. This book is due to be published on May 1st, 2025.
Such a Good Mom by Julia Spiro
Some reviewers say this makes for a great beach read, but I think it’s just as great a time as any to read it in the spring. It is due to be published at the end of April 2025, on the 29th, to be exact.
New mom Brynn Nelson is struggling with postpartum. To top it off, a murder on the Vineyard shakes her to the core. And she’s beginning to suspect her husband Ross, who has started acting weird lately.
Anna K by Jenny Lee
I love a cute, light love story. I find it makes for appropriate spring reading, when our outlook on life is brighter.
Anna K is a modern take on the Russian classic, Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy. Love triangles and young love is the center of this novel.
The book was published in March 2020, just before the world saw one of its biggest pandemics ever.
All Adults Here by Emma Straub
I discovered Emma Straub in 2024, although she’s been a published author for a few years. I loved All Adults Here because of the quirky characters, the sense of community, and the overall cute storyline.
The novel transports the reader to a small Hudson Valley town, where gossip and neighbors knowing your business is part of everyday life.
Told with wit and humor, this book was published in May 2020.
Maame by Jessica George
Another gorgeous cover, Maame is a contemporary fiction novel that follows Maddie through her early twenties. Her struggles with identity and cultural traditions are at the center of this storyline.
Born from Ghanese parents who immigrated to London, Maddie is still trying to please the impossible standards her parents raised her with. Her British-born friends don’t seem to understand her, but neither does her family.
This book was published in January 2023.
The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abby Waxman
This novel was one of my favorite books I read in 2024. Although the book was published in 2019, I had it sitting on my shelves for almost five years. I guess part of me wanted to delay reading it because I couldn’t experience it for the first time once I delved into it.
This is the type of book I knew I would love even before I read a whole page. It’s cute and quirky as well, and it leaves you with an overall positive feeling after reading it.
Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano
This is the first novel I read by Ann Napolitano, but she quickly became a favorite. I loved this family saga, with its complicated dynamics and imperfect relationships.
Told in a flawless style Hello, Beautiful will not leave you unmoved. Love it or hate it, this is a book that makes me think of A Little Life. Not as tragic, but with a similarly darker look at human emotions and suffering.
The novel was published in 2023, and it made my top five of the year.
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
The second novel by the author, Blue Sisters is a great family saga that follows the three remaining Blue sisters in the aftermath of the suicide of their fourth isister.
The author has a unique way of giving the characters a voice, imperfections and all. If you love a complicated family drama with flawed characters, you will love Blue Sisters.
The book was published in May 2024, making it ideal spring reading.
The Ballerinas by Rachel Kapelke-Dale
Part mystery, part contemporary fiction, this is one of my favorite novels ever. Not to mention that gorgeous cover. It’s like a work of art, I wish I could frame it.
The story revolves around a couple of friends who studied ballet at the Paris Ballet company. We see how their lives remained intertwined even a few years following graduation.
A nice book to read in spring 2025, even though it was published in 2021.
Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors
This was my favorite book of 2022, making Coco Mellors one of my favorite authors ever. Her writing is a breath of fresh air.
I’m not going to say much more about it than I haven’t already, but I urge you to grab this book.
It makes for a great novel to read at this time of year, when the world is coming out of hibernation.
Cleo and Frank are a couple who are struggling to make things work, despite their very different upbringings.
Sublime writing and another gorgeous cover, Cleopatra and Frankenstein, is once again finding itself on one of my most recommended lists.
Concluding Words
This is my list of 12 books to read in spring 2025. I hope you will consider reading at least one of the titles I mentioned. Some of these are my all-time favorite books, and I will be so happy if they become favorites for you as well.
Until next time, keep reading fellow bookworms.
