Rainbow Covers Series: Blue

blue cover books july 24

This is the second post in the Rainbow Covers series, featuring blue book covers. I must say, when we have lots of books to choose from, the task is daunting. While I try to choose wisely, it isn’t as easy as it may seem.

I wanted to offer readers a variety of books to choose from so more of you can relate. The list includes some books I read, some I still plan to read, some older, as well as some newer books. But there’s one thing they have in common: they’re all from my shelves. And that goes for this entire series.

The reasoning behind this is so it encourages me to prioritize my books that I already own. Hence, this challenge is keeping me accountable for not going out and purchasing more books when my shelves are clearly overflowing.

Now that you’re up to speed on this topic, let’s get down to business. These are my blue cover books that are part of my rainbow cover series.

The Nanny by Gilly Macmillan

The Nanny

I’ve read a couple of books by Gilly Macmilan but I still own at least two that I haven’t read yet. This one is an older work that was published in 2019, but it is among one of the authors’ most popular books. The nanny is a slower-burn mystery/thriller that promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats. And the ending promises to surprise even the most seasoned thriller lover.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

The Lovely Bones

I’ve mentioned this book in a previous post, but it’s also appropriate for this one. The pretty blue cover gives the reader cool, peaceful vibes. Although that can be deceiving once you find out what the book is about. I don’t mean it in a bad way, the book is actually lovely. But if you were expecting a light read, this is not it. It’s a thriller/mystery that is appropriate to a younger audience.

Little Boy Blue by M.J. Arlidge

Little Boy Blue

This book is the fifth installment in the Helen Grace series. And if you read a few of its reviews, it promises to deliver on action, plot, and great writing. According to a few reviewers, the author gets better and better with each installment. The only drawback to this book is that it may be a bit confusing if you didn’t read the previous four. Since it follows DCI Grace and her story, it may be best not to read this book as a standalone.

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel

The Glass Hotel

As many of you know I’m not into dystopian, literary fiction, but I heard great things about the Glass Hotel. So I decided to jump in and get myself a copy of the book, only to have it sit on my shelves for over three years now. I mean, the synopsis seems intriguing: it’s centered around a disappearance that may or may not be related to an elaborate Ponzi scheme. If you read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Sweet Little Lies by Caz Frear

Sweet Little Lies

The next two books on this list are a continuation of the series by Caz Frear I mentioned in the first post of my rainbow series. Sweet Little Lies is the first book in the Cat Kinsella series. We are introduced to the loveable, fearless detective and her first case she solves. A great debut police procedural, I can’t wait to dig into it.

Stone Cold Heart by Caz Frear

Stone Cold Heart

The second book in the Cat Kinsella series is Stone Cold Heart. In this installment, Cat is back and ready to tackle a new case, all while trying to keep away from her boss’ wrath. Secrets and lies are at the heart of Frear’s novels. The way she weaves the storylines is clever and keeps readers on their toes until the last page. If you’re looking for a new police procedural series, this one is a good option.

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Bel Canto

I have a few Ann Patchett books on my shelves, Bel Canto being among one of her more popular works. Along with The Dutch House, which I will include in a future post. Bel Canto is also a 2018 major motion picture starring Julianne Moore. A successful American soprano is involved in a hostage situation after she gets an exclusive invitation to perform for a wealthy South American businessman. Sounds like a great novel!

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

All The Light We Cannot See

Another important book that’s been sitting on my shelves for way too long, All the Light We Cannot See is one of the best historical fiction novels ever written. This year marks its tenth anniversary, and it’s still a widely read book up to today. I guess the Second World War will remain a very popular topic in fiction for years to come. And when the book is so expertly crafted, no wonder it is still the object of much discussion. If you’re like me and have been planning to read it for a while, maybe you can prioritize it this year.

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell

The Night She Disappeared

Lisa Jewell does have a storytelling gift that makes its readers engaged. This book is no different. It is told from a couple of perspectives and with different timelines. Jewel slowly reveals pieces of the story as the book progresses until everything comes together at the end. If you haven’t read any books by the author, this one seems as good as any to start with. I’ve read a couple of the authors’ works and haven’t been disappointed yet. And they’re all standalones, so you can choose to read them at random and not feel confused.

Anna K by Jenny Lee

Anna K

I read this modern adaptation of Anna Karenina earlier this year and I loved it! It was fun, it was cute, and it encouraged me to read more of the genre this year. It’s a nice change from my usual thrillers I usually gravitate towards. But don’t fret, I’m still a thriller lover at heart! I simply decided to step out of my comfort zone a bit more this year. And I’m not going to lie, it’s proven to be working out for me so far.

If you’re looking for a lighthearted rom-com to read, this is an older book but one that won’t disappoint!

Concluding Words

This wraps up my second post in my rainbow covers series, with the focus on blue ones for today. The next installment coming up soon is green. I have a few great books I picked out for you guys, so stay tuned.

Until then, keep reading fellow bookworms!
