This is my New Year 2022 random ramblings post!
Hello friends, and welcome to 2022! First things first, let me wish you a great new year, and may it bring you all that you need.
A new year, filled with hope and good intentions, as per usual. We all want the new year to be better than the last, it’s normal. I personally have not met another human being that wants their new year to be worse than the previous one. Unless there’s something wrong with them, but still, I haven’t encountered any as of yet.
That being said, I still hope you get all of your heart’s desires, but mostly health. That’s the most important thing, everything else will follow.
We all start a new year with this renewed hope and goals that we want to accomplish in the first few days of every year. But most of us rarely stick to them. Why is that?
Setting goals is actually a good thing, and it keeps us motivated and striving for more. So why do most New Year’s resolutions fall through?
Probably because most of them are set because of peer pressure, or they are simply unrealistic.
Let me give you some specific examples.
Peer Pressure
Let me start this New Year 2022 random ramblings post with this topic.
There’s always a new “No Buy¨ challenge going on on social media, always at the beginning of a new year. Is that really something most of us can commit to, for an entire year?
I personally joined this 22 Books in 2022 challenge, but I think some people are taking it out of context. Let me explain.
Most of us bookworms have humongous To Be Read lists that are never-ending. We buy books, then new ones come out. We get a recommendation from a favorite book blogger or influencer, and the books we bought take a back seat.
The way I interpret this challenge is not to not buy any books throughout the year but to commit to reading at least 22 books I already own from my own library. Keep in mind that for myself, I read an average of anywhere between 50-75 books a year. So that’s a reasonable challenge, I think.
I’m not encouraging anyone not to support book buying, far from that. I cannot go a year without buying a book. Since I’ve made my own money I have bought at least a few books every single year. That’s like food or water to me. I cannot live without buying books. Never going to happen. Sorry, not sorry.
Unrealistic Goals
Now unrealistic goals really vary from person to person. One of the most popular resolutions that many people make every year is to join a gym or to lose X number of pounds.
Personally, I have never engaged in those resolutions. They are super unrealistic, especially if you like eating and don’t really care for the gym.
A different approach to the same goals would be to maybe cut down on something you consume too much of, let’s say sugar, and try to get moving a little more each week.
A similar goal, but a lot more doable.
The less pressure you put on yourself, the more likely you are to stick to the goals.
My Personal Goals for 2022
As many of you know already, I like many things, and I tend to change my mind a lot. Especially when it comes to stuff such as favorite things. Not so much that I change my mind, but as I evolve, so do my needs, therefore my tastes tend to change.
One of the things that have never changed throughout the years is my striving for more. I always want to accomplish more, try new things, etc.
This year I’m going to try to keep it very realistic.
- Since I like lists and keeping scores, especially regarding my reading goals, I will continue to do so. As the year progresses, that might get modified, we shall see.
- One thing that I will try to make an effort with is my online engagement. I need to be more present and more involved with my little community, and hopefully, it will grow in time. That is something I’ve been meaning to work on for a while.
- I plan to get more organized when it comes to sticking to a schedule and try posting at least once a week, even if it’s a short post.
- Put my needs first, and listen to my inner voice more. That is actually going to be on my list every year, so hopefully I will get better at it with time.
I think that will be pretty much it for 2022. I don’t see the point of overwhelming myself with any more goals than that. If I do, that will just create more stress, and I’m trying to avoid that at any cost.
Concluding Words
This concludes my New Year 2022 random ramblings.
Life without goals, or resolutions, as some like to call them, would be meaningless. Always try to compete against yourself, and work on improving yourself. We all want to be better humans and be respected by our loved ones, but that starts from within. Stop waiting for outside validation, that may never come.
If there is something I have learned in the last couple of years, it is that you are the most important person in your life. Treat yourself well, and others will too.
Once again, I wish you all a very happy new year, and may all your wishes come true!
Keep reading, as will I.
